I’ve been doing a series of articles on some of my favorite quotes. Perhaps one of the coolest is a quote from financial guru Dave Ramsey. It’s probably not his best known, so here goes.
“You have to punch that one thing in the mouth repeatedly until it goes down.” He was talking about applying gazelle-like intensity to paying off debt.
In case you missed them a couple months ago, here are Dave’s first three Baby Steps:
10 Common Misconceptions About Fitness

Obviously, we don’t always do the right things regarding our diet and exercise. All you have to do is look around. Maybe even just look in the mirror.
Some people are trying to do the right thing, but they’re misinformed. But sometimes they’re just deceiving themselves, or making excuses.
I often feel like my job is to help them have a Dr. Phil moment and ask them how it’s working for them. After all, it’s the truth that sets us free.

I’ve been writing about a series of some of my favorite quotes. One of my all-time favorites is from noted Psychologist and TV talk show guru, Dr. Phil.
A regular guest on the Oprah Winfrey show and then on his own show, Dr. Phil became famous for his straight talk. The best example has become an iconic statement: “How’s that working for you?”
We usually hear this when offered with some sarcasm, but I think it’s most powerful when delivered as a serious question. The goal is to get the person to stop and think for a moment.

I’ve worked with lots of people with their health and fitness over the years. Many were seriously overweight. Some have been very obese.
While I always do everything I can to help, in the end it always comes down to their own personal responsibility. They’re the ones that let things go; they’re the ones who have to fight to get it back. No one can do it for them.
One of the people I’m working with puts it more bluntly. “No one else put that food in your mouth. You did it. Now fix it.”
Got Goals? Get S.M.A.R.T.

With the New Year arriving, I’ve been paying close attention to anything I can find that’s goal oriented or goal related. Recently, I ran across something that really helped me out as I started working to grow our fitness center and martial arts school.
It was the acronym S.M.A.R.T. paired with the word goals: S.M.A.R.T. goals. The idea was that goals are great, but sometimes, they still won’t get you there. For better results, it helps to zero in a little bit. Our goals need to be smarter.
As with all acronyms, each letter stands for something important. Here’s what you need to know about S.M.A.R.T goals.
