Get Started. Stay Started.
Posted: December 30, 2015
With the New Year just around the corner, many people start thinking about some of the changes they’d like to make. It’s a good defining point, with 2015 ending, and 2016 beginning. I’ve already heard some resolutions at the gym, and have been making a few myself.
We’ve all made resolutions in the past that just didn’t last, for some reason or another. It’s disappointing when they don’t. I think many times, we don’t even expect to be successful, but we go through the motions anyway. And if we fail, we kind of accept it, figuring that was going to happen anyway.
The problem with a resolution isn’t usually with the resolution, although sometimes we do bite off more than we can chew. Rather, it’s often the attitude behind the resolution. We often just aren’t resolute enough.
Many times, the thing we wanted to do was important, but not important enough. It didn’t mean enough to us to make the cut when other things came up. Or we didn’t want it bad enough to do all the things that needed to be done.
This is pretty common in weight loss, and fitness in general. Especially when someone has been sedentary for awhile. It’s pretty tough getting started, and even tougher staying started. But if you are really resolute, meaning you really, really want to do it, that’s a good place to start.
The trick is having more reasons “why” than the reasons “why not to.” If your life depends on it, you’ll find a way to get it done, right? So you need that kind of emotion and intentionality behind your decision.
Get the information you need, get some facts, and find your reasons why. Get prepared for the changes, but at some point, you have to “just get started.” After that, you’ve got to stay started. That’s it. Stay started. Be resolute.
You’re going to hurt a little. You’re going to be uncomfortable. But stay started. You stay the course. You stick, even when other people don’t. That’s how you get what you want!
To help you do this, our 27th community-wide Biggest Loser “27” will be kicking off this coming Monday at 5:30 pm with a Boot Camp workout and weigh-in. The cost is just $100 for the 7 weeks, 21 Boot Camp workouts, lots of support and accountability, and you don’t need to be a member to attend.
