We wrapped up the first week of Biggest Loser “25” last Monday night. I was really looking forward to this first weigh-in because there were signs of excellent participation all week.
The first goal in Week One was to get moving, and they sure did that! For the first time ever, almost all of them attended all the M/W/F boot camp workouts. I can’t really make anything “mandatory” but I sure strongly encouraged it!
Last Spring in Biggest Loser, we tested the boot camps out, by giving them all access to them. Some did em, some didn’t. At the end, the people left standing with the best results were the ones who had been doing boot camp. So this time out, they’re doing em! On the other days, I post some cardio routines for them.
The second goal in Week One was to learn how much they were eating. This led to the other big change, which was everyone downloading the free MyFitnessPal app. They had to take a screen shot of the app and send it to me, after making a couple food entries.
When you’re trying to lose weight, tracking your food is critical, at least until you’re getting results, and you know what you’re doing. This app’s an easy way to learn how much you’re eating, and to see where you stand at the end of each day.
If you can end up with a 500 calorie deficit each day, and do it all week, you’ll lose a pound. A 1,000 calorie deficit will net you two pounds a week. It’s pretty simple. Eat the right amount of food and get enough exercise, and you’ll lose weight.
Between MyFitnessPal, and the boot camp workouts, the Biggest Losers now have some pretty good tools to do that. Just in Week One, we’ve already had some people get good results with them.
For those who still struggle a bit, you need to know it sometimes takes awhile to dial everything in. You’re changing habits you’ve had for a long time, and sometimes your mind and body resist a little bit. But hang in there. If you’ll just stick with it and give yourself a chance, I know you can do it!
The Biggest Loser for Week One was Kara Stribling, who lost 5.0 lbs and 3.0% of her body weight! Second place went to Amy Devillez, losing 4.4 lbs and 2.5%. Michelle Conine took third, losing 3.8 lbs and 1.5%.
